The Personal Injury Education Foundation delivers training using the American Medical Association Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment under Victorian legislation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor.  Delivery: Online This is a Stream 1 module that is designed for doctors that do not hold this accreditation. Accreditation requires you to complete each of the online modules and to successfully complete the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Digestive System If you have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Digestive System update (Stream 2). Please note: This module does not cover evaluation of the spleen or splenectomy. If you are interested in evaluation of the spleen and splenectomy you are advised to also enroll in the Hematopoietic System online module. Module information This module covers the use of Chapter 10 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairments of the digestive system. Such impairments may result from direct damage to the digestive system from trauma. Impairments may also result from other indirect mechanisms, such as symptoms or signs arising from the need by a person to take certain medications, which may affect the digestive system. The module covers: The concept of desirable weight for the purposes of impairment assessment. The methodology used to evaluate all parts of the digestives system. The methodology used to evaluate hernias of the abdominal wall. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them when they complete the training. Delivery: Online This is a Stream 2 module and it’s designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Successful completion of the Stream 2 module will lead to awarding of one update to accreditation: Digestive System update If you have not already successfully completed this module you want to gain these accreditations, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Digestive System (Stream 1). Module information This module covers the use of Chapter 10 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairments of the digestive system. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Visual System If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Visual System update (Stream 2). *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to bring their AMA4 Guide when they attend training. Module information This module covers the use of Chapter 9 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairment of the visual system, including the eyes, ocular adnexa and visual pathways. The module includes: The types of impairments that are evaluated for the purpose of assessment of the visual system using the Guides. The two distinct approaches that will be required to assess an overall impairment score of the visual system, and which depend on the types of visual testing performed in a particular case. The distinction between visual impairment, visual system impairment and impairment of the whole person. The types of test apparatus required to perform an assessment in accordance with the Guides.
