The Personal Injury Education Foundation delivers training using the American Medical Association Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment under Victorian legislation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor.  Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 1 module and it’s designed for doctors that have never successfully completed the Stream 1 module and do not hold that accreditation. Accreditation requires you to attend the session as well as successfully completing the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Lower Extremity If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Lower Extremity update (Stream 2). *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training. Module information The module covers the criteria from Chapter 3 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairment of the lower extremity. The module includes: The various anatomic, diagnostic and functions methods which are used to evaluate impairment of the part of the lower extremity The logical path of consideration of what method is appropriate to evaluate any specific impairment of the lower extremity The logical path of consideration to derive an overall score for impairment of a lower extremity when there is more than one impairment The approach to disentangling potential overlaps of ratings with other chapters of the Guides Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 2 module and it’s designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 version of this module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Please note: Core (Stream 1) is the mandatory module that needs to be undertaken in order to gain accreditation in any of the elective (body parts) module. Module information This module covers: The overarching principles from Chapters 1, 2 and the Glossary of the Guides that apply to all assessments performed using the Guides. The ways in which assessments using the Guides in used for the three Victorian Compensation Jurisdictions: WorkSafe Victoria Transport Accident Commission The Wrongs Act The ways in which the Guides are modified by legislation. This includes removal of some parts of the Guides, and replacement of some parts with alternative prescribed methodologies. The ways in which binding Court Decisions have clarified how parts of the Guides are to be interpreted. The way in which some common medical terms are given different meanings in the Guides. The way in which impairment scores for different body parts are to be assembled to derive an overall score of impairment of a whole person. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Psychiatry GEPIC If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Psychiatry GEPIC update (Stream 2). Please note: The prescribed method of assessing psychiatric impairment changed to the ‘GEPIC’ in 2005. Some examiners may have been trained and accredited in the older method of assessing Psychiatric Method (the ‘CGRPI’) but must successfully complete Stream 1 training for the newer Psychiatry GEPIC module to be accredited to use that newer methodology. Module information This module teaches the prescribed methodology for assessing psychiatric impairment, but the methodology used is not from Chapter 14 of the Guides. A substituted methodology called the ‘GEPIC’ is required to assess Psychiatric impairment for the Victorian Compensation Jurisdictions. This module covers: The process of assessment of overall psychiatric impairment using the GEPIC (the Guide to the Evaluation of Psychiatric Impairment for Clinicians). Apportionment of Psychiatric Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. The legislative requirements to further differentiate between certain types of psychiatric impairment which may be related to compensable event. The approach taken to disentangle any overlap between the Psychiatric Impairment and organic impairment of the Nervous System. Read more
