The Personal Injury Education Foundation delivers training using the American Medical Association Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment under Victorian legislation.

Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 2 module and it’s designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Successful completion of the Stream 2 module will lead to awarding of the following update to accreditation: Spine Update Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Documents Update If you have not already successfully completed the Steam 1 module and you want to gain that accreditation, please go back to the homepage and enrol in the module titled: Spine (Stream 1) and Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Documents (Stream 1). *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them when they attend training. Module information This module covers criteria for assessing spine using both the methodology from Chapter 3 of the Guides,  and also some modification to those criteria, which applies in some cases, and is contained in an additional prescribed methodology called the Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document. The module covers: The key concepts that apply to assessment of Spinal Impairment. The way in which some terms are given specific meaning within the Guides is different that from clinical practice. A logical path for consideration of Spinal Impairment, whether using the Guides, or with use of the Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Read more

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor.  Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 1 module and it’s designed for doctors that have never successfully completed the Stream 1 module and do not hold that accreditation. Accreditation requires you to attend the session as well as successfully completing the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to award of one accreditation: Hand and Upper Extremity If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Hand and Upper Extremity update (Stream 2). ​*Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training program. Module information This module coves the criteria in Chapter 3 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairments of the upper extremity. The module covers: The various specific methods that can be used in evaluation of impairment including abnormal motion, amputation, sensory or motor nerve dysfunction and ankylosis. The approach to be taken to choose the appropriate method for a particular case and how to derive an overall score when there are multiple impairment of an upper extremity. Discussion of the commonly seen disorders of the upper extremity in a compensation framework. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Read more

Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Psychiatry GEPIC If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Psychiatry GEPIC update (Stream 2). Please note: The prescribed method of assessing psychiatric impairment changed to the ‘GEPIC’ in 2005. Some examiners may have been trained and accredited in the older method of assessing Psychiatric Method (the ‘CGRPI’) but must successfully complete Stream 1 training for the newer Psychiatry GEPIC module to be accredited to use that newer methodology. *Course cost includes GST. Module information This module teaches the prescribed methodology for assessing psychiatric impairment, but the methodology used is not from Chapter 14 of the Guides. A substituted methodology called the ‘GEPIC’ is required to assess Psychiatric impairment for the Victorian Compensation Jurisdictions. This module covers: The process of assessment of overall psychiatric impairment using the GEPIC (the Guide to the Evaluation of Psychiatric Impairment for Clinicians). Apportionment of Psychiatric Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. The legislative requirements to further differentiate between certain types of psychiatric impairment which may be related to compensable event.
