The Personal Injury Education Foundation delivers training using the American Medical Association Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment under Victorian legislation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor.  Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 1 module and it’s designed for doctors that have never successfully completed the Dermatology Stream 1 module and do not hold this accreditation. Accreditation requires you to attend the session as well as successfully completing the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation Dermatology ( Skin System/Scar) If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Dermatology (Skin System/Scar) update (Stream 2). *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training session. Module information This module covers the methodology in the Guides for evaluating permanent impairment of the skin and its appendages. The module mostly covers Chapter 13 of the Guides but does include how and when to refer to other part of the Guides (including part of Chapter 9) to assess facial impairment. The module covers The assessment of skin as organ system which includes assessments of scars (including surgical scar), burns, skin grafts, and stumps, but also includes dermatological conditions such as dermatitis. The approach to evaluate the impact of a skin condition on activities of daily living. The approach to use when considering what symptoms and signs or skin disorder may be present, whether these will change with treatment, and the extent of any treatment that may be required. The use of part of Chapter 9 to assess facial impairment. The approach to be taken when other parts of the Guides are used to assess the effect of certain skin conditions. Read more

Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 2 module and it’s designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Successful completion of the Stream 2 module will lead to awarding of one update to accreditation: Dermatology (Skin System/Scar) update If you have not already successfully completed the Stream 1 module you want to gain that accreditation, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Dermatology - Skin System/Scar (Stream 1). *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training session. Module information This module covers the parts of Chapter 13 of the Guides that relate to female reproductive organs including the vulva, clitoris, vagina, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries. The module covers: The approach to using the methodology for assessment of the specific parts of the female reproductive organs. The approach for considering the physiologic differences between pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women. Discussion of key issues relating to the female reproduction (including loss of foetus) in the context of compensable injury. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Read more

Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of two accreditations: Spine Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document Module information This module covers criteria for assessing spine using both the methodology from Chapter 3 of the Guides, and also some modification to those criteria, which applies in some cases, and is contained in an additional prescribed methodology called the Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document. The module covers: The key concepts that apply to assessment of Spinal Impairment. The way in which some terms are given specific meaning within the Guides is different that from clinical practice. A logical path for consideration of Spinal Impairment, whether using the Guides, or with use of the Spinal Impairment Guides Modification Document.
