The Personal Injury Education Foundation delivers training using the American Medical Association Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment under Victorian legislation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor.  Delivery: Online This is a Stream 1 module that is designed for doctors that do not hold this accreditation. Accreditation requires you to complete each of the modules and to successfully complete the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Endocrine System If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enroll in Endocrine System update (Stream 2). Module information The module covers the criteria from Chapter 12 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairment of the endocrine system. The module includes consideration of impairment of the hypothalamic-pituitary complex, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, islet tissues of the pancreas, and gonads. *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them when they complete the training. Delivery: Online This is a Stream 2 module and it is designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Successful completion of the Stream 2 module will lead to awarding of one update to accreditation: Endocrine System update If you have not already successfully completed this module and you want to gain this accreditation, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Endocrine System (Stream 1). Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Visual System If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Visual System update (Stream 2). *Course cost includes GST. *Participants need to bring their AMA4 Guide when they attend training. Module information This module covers the use of Chapter 9 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairment of the visual system, including the eyes, ocular adnexa and visual pathways. The module includes: The types of impairments that are evaluated for the purpose of assessment of the visual system using the Guides. The two distinct approaches that will be required to assess an overall impairment score of the visual system, and which depend on the types of visual testing performed in a particular case. The distinction between visual impairment, visual system impairment and impairment of the whole person. The types of test apparatus required to perform an assessment in accordance with the Guides. The approach to be taken to apportion an impairment score to account for a pre-existing visual impairment. Read more

Module information This module coves the criteria in Chapter 3 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairments of the upper extremity. The module covers: The various specific methods that can be used in evaluation of impairment including abnormal motion, amputation, sensory or motor nerve dysfunction and ankylosis. The approach to be taken to choose the appropriate method for a particular case and how to derive an overall score when there are multiple impairment of an upper extremity. Discussion of the commonly seen disorders of the upper extremity in a compensation framework. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Read more
