IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor. Delivery: Online This is a Stream 1 module that is designed for doctors that do not hold this accreditation. Accreditation requires you to complete the online modules and to successfully complete the assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to the awarding of: Cardiovascular System accreditation If you have already successfully completed the Stream 1 module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enroll in Cardiovascular System update (Stream 2). *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guides with them whilst completing the online module. Module information This module covers the criteria from Chapter 6 of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fourth Edition (“the AMA Guides”) which are used to evaluate permanent impairment of the cardiovascular system, including the heart, aorta and peripheral vascular system. The module includes: The approach to evaluating functions and classification of cardiac disease in a compensation framework. The differences between the usage of some terms in the context of the AMA Guides and their usage in current clinical medicine. The approach to disentangling multiple causes of functional classification when assessing impairment. Reference to another part of the AMA Guides to assess impairment associated with a permanent need for blood thinners. Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them when they complete the training. IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stream 1 module requires you to also complete Core (Stream 1) to become an approved assessor. Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 1 module and it’s designed for doctors that have never successfully completed the Stream 1 module and do not hold that accreditation. Accreditation requires you to attend the session as well as successfully completing the module assessment. Successful completion of the module will lead to awarding of one accreditation: Lower Extremity If you have already successfully completed this module and you want to undertake continuing education, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Lower Extremity update (Stream 2). *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training. Module information The module covers the criteria from Chapter 3 of the Guides to evaluate permanent impairment of the lower extremity. The module includes: The various anatomic, diagnostic and functions methods which are used to evaluate impairment of the part of the lower extremity The logical path of consideration of what method is appropriate to evaluate any specific impairment of the lower extremity The logical path of consideration to derive an overall score for impairment of a lower extremity when there is more than one impairment The approach to disentangling potential overlaps of ratings with other chapters of the Guides Apportionment of Impairment: The approach required to disentangle what impairment may or may not be related to a compensable event. Delivery: Webinar This is a Stream 2 module and it’s designed for doctors that have already successfully completed the Stream 1 version of this module and hold that accreditation. Stream 2 modules do not have any assessment requirements, they will help you improve your proficiency by updating your skills in applying the AMA4 Guides and/or other prescribed assessment methods. Successful completion of the Stream 2 module will lead to awarding of one update to accreditation: Lower Extremity update If you have not already successfully completed the Stream 1 version of this module and you want to gain that accreditation, please go back to the homepage and enrol in Lower Extremity (Stream 1). *Participants need to have their AMA4 Guide with them during the training. Module information This module covers the assessment of permanent impairments from the principle dysfunctions of the ear, nose, throat and related structures. The module covers: The fact that legislation requires that the Australian NAL methodology is used to assess hearing loss rather than the method in Chapter 9 of the Guides. The process to be followed to assess impairment of hearing loss is the NAL methodology as it is variously adopted in the three compensation jurisdictions. The specific approaches to taken to assessment of noise induced hearing loss. The approach to be taken to assess ENT disorders including equilibrium, facial structure, disorders of the air passage defects. The other parts of the Guides beyond Chapter 9 that an examiner accredited for this module may use to complete assessment of impairments of Cranial Nerves I, VI and VIII. Read more

Module information The module teaches the methodology in the Guides for evaluating permanent impairments resulting in dysfunction of the brain, brain stem, cranial nerves, spinal cord, nerve roots, and peripheral nerves. While much of the methodology is found in Chapter 4 of the Guides, the module also covers the approach required to use other parts of the Guides to assess certain impairments, particularly peripheral nerve injury. The module covers The methodology for assessing impairment of the forebrain including evaluation of mental status, brain injury causing behavioural change, epilepsy, and major motor and sensory disorders The methodology for assessing impairment from spinal cord injury and the approach to be taken when an alternative spine assessment has been conducted using Chapter 3 of the Guides The methodology for assessing cranial nerve dysfunction, including the approach to be taken when a more specific method of assessment is available from another Chapter of the Guides (such as when cranial nerves affecting vision are involved) The methodology for assessing peripheral nerves which includes the approach to estimate (or grade) the extent of damage of a peripheral nerve, including the branchial plexus.
